Stokes Law governs gas / liquid and liquid / liquid settling in laminar flow conditions. Thus, effective residence time is crucial for separation in these zones. ProSep offers various means to achieve plug flow, e.g., with flow distribution baffles, to ensure maximum residence time and maximum separation efficiency. Internals used to facilitate coalescence during residence also enhance separation.
Internals in the gas zone maintain “plug flow,” settle large droplets, break foam, and prevent wave action. In the liquid disengagement zone, coalescence of the liquid phase, prevention of gas carryunder, breakage of emulsions, prevention of outlet vortexing, and maximization of effective residence time can all be achieved by using a variety of internal components.
