In the inlet zone, ProSep internals work to achieve bulk separation via lower inlet momentum (velocities); prevention of droplet shatter, foam formation, gas / liquid entrainment, and short-circuiting; and establishment of “plug flow.”
As inlet energy increases, droplet shatter increases, resulting in smaller particles, and thus less efficient gravity separation. More efficient technology is required to manage vessel entry.
An inlet vane distributor expands the flow area of the inlet to reduce momentum, and an inlet cyclone device separates the gas and liquid phases by centrifugal forces as the liquids enter the vessel, improving the utilization of the available separation volume in the separator.
